The much-anticipated Season 2 of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel launches on Prime Video this week, and audience theories has been rampant.
The first season introduces a large cast of characters living within the afterlife, sets them at odds with musical numbers detailing their conflicts, and builds tense rivalries and emotional bonds that drive fan obsession.
The community's expectations for season 2 vary widely, but certain themes recur frequently: Will a fan-favorite character break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with audience demands specifically in mind," the showrunner stated recently. "However I believe that me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator reveals her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That could imply fans have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how fast the new season progresses, and how much of what they're anticipating unfolds this season.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we get some incredible reveals, some really cool origin tales, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — especially in the form of audience prediction charts.
"I've seen a couple people make a prediction grid about season 2," she says. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've already completed a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 premieres on the streaming service on October 29.
