A man who spiked sweets with sedative and gave them to minors at a summer program in the region has admitted sexual offenses against two children both between nine and ten.

The defendant was taken into custody after eight minors and one adult fell ill at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at the judicial center on Friday.

Yet, he denied a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.

The accused was kept in jail prior to a subsequent court date on late November.

'Candy game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, outlined Ruben's offending to the court.

She said his victims were under-privileged children who were staying at a youth camp which he operated.

The man engaged in a "candy game" with the minors, the prosecutor said, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to eat sweets "rapidly".

She stated to the judge Ruben had played this game with the boys "over an extended period", and children had previously fallen ill the following morning.

She explained Ruben had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the youngsters being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had suspicions in recently.

The prosecutor added: "This year his family member had worries about what was going on, for good reason.

"They chose" to have a look in the defendant's belongings."

The legal counsel said items including infant oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were discovered, and his family member contacted the police about his worries.

She explained the defendant continued to play the "sweet game" with six children that time - that Saturday - and they were all ill the next day.

"Authorities" had not arrived by that stage," she stated further.

The police watchdog, the police conduct office, had stated that it was examining the police response of the situation.

The prosecutor explained the children were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the stepson notified the law enforcement again.

She said the defendant then conducted the "candy game" in a space of five youngsters.
